How Much Does a Personal Trainer Cost in Greenville, SC?

Personal trainer Allison Cole coaching a client at 4Balance Fitness in Greenville SC

I get this question almost every week, and I understand why people hesitate to ask it out loud. There is something about asking "how much does this cost?" that feels uncomfortable, like you are already expecting to be judged for your budget or talked into something you do not want.

So let me just answer it directly, the way I wish someone had answered it for me before I got into this industry.

Personal training in Greenville, SC ranges from around $30 per session on the very low end at large commercial gyms to $100 or more per session at high-end boutique studios. At 4Balance Fitness, our ongoing coaching starts at $196 per month and our introductory packages start at $500. I will explain exactly what each of those numbers means and what you are actually getting for them, because the price tag alone tells you almost nothing.

Why Personal Training Prices Vary So Much

Before I get into our specific numbers, I want to explain why you will see such a wide range when you search for personal training in Greenville.

The biggest factor is not the trainer. It is the structure.

A trainer at Planet Fitness or a large commercial gym is usually paid a percentage of the session fee, working within a facility that already has overhead covered by membership dues. Their rates can be lower because the gym is subsidizing the environment. The tradeoff is that you are one of dozens of clients that trainer is juggling, sessions may be 30 minutes, and the programming is often templated.

At a private training studio like ours, every client gets a certified coach, individualized programming, a nutrition plan, and ongoing support. There is no membership revenue padding the model. What you pay is what funds your coaching, your coach's time, and the environment we have built for your results.

That context matters when you are comparing prices online. You are not always comparing the same product.

What Personal Training Costs at 4Balance Fitness

Step 1: The Consultation Is Free

Every single new client starts with a free personal consultation. This is not a sales call with a gym tour attached. It is a real assessment that includes your intake history, a sit-down goal discussion with your coach, a professional InBody body composition scan, a functional movement screen, and a customized evaluation if your situation requires it.

Most gyms charge $75 to $150 for this kind of assessment. We do not charge for it because we want you to have the information you need to make a real decision, whether you join us or not.

You can book yours at 4balancefitness.com/pricing.

Step 2: The 6-Week Starter

We require all new personal training clients to begin with a 6-Week Starter package. This is not a money grab. It is how we build the foundation that makes everything after it work. Six weeks is enough time to establish your movement patterns, dial in your nutrition baseline, identify what your body responds to, and get real data from weekly InBody scans so your coach can make informed adjustments.

We offer two paths:

6-Week Starter Standard This is for anyone ready to build a genuine fitness routine with professional coaching and accountability. You get unlimited training sessions during those six weeks, a personalized meal plan, full coach access, and weekly body composition scans to track real progress.

  • Solo: $500

  • Duo (two people training together): $800 total, $400 per person

  • Trio (three people training together): $900 total, $300 per person

6-Week Starter Enhanced This is our accelerated entry point. Everything in the Standard package, plus a targeted 6-week peptide protocol through 4Balance Peptides. You choose between a GLP-3 metabolic support protocol or a Healing and Recovery compound based on your goals. This option is designed for people who want to move faster, recover better, or address a specific physiological need alongside their training.

  • Solo: $600

  • Duo: $1,000 total, $500 per person

  • Trio: $1,200 total, $400 per person

The Enhanced package is not for everyone and we will tell you honestly during your consultation whether it makes sense for your situation.

Step 3: Your Ongoing Coaching Plan

After your 6-week starter, you move into one of our recurring membership options billed every four weeks. Here is how they are structured:

Flex Training starts at $196 per four weeks. This includes a personalized training program delivered through our coaching app, a meal plan, unlimited workouts during gym hours under coach supervision, and full coach support through the app. You do not need to schedule individual sessions. You show up, your program is ready, and your coach is on the floor. This is our best fit for people with variable schedules or those who want the structure of professional programming without locking into specific appointment times.

Focus Training is our 1-on-1 personal training option. Every session is scheduled directly with your trainer, fully coached, and refined continuously based on your progress data. This is for people who want to show up and be told exactly what to do, who need a higher level of hands-on accountability, or who are working through specific physical limitations or performance goals.

Full pricing for all ongoing plans is at 4balancefitness.com/pricing. I am not going to bury you in a price chart here because the right plan depends on a conversation, not a webpage.

Can You Use HSA or FSA for Personal Training?

Yes, and this is one of the most underused options available to people in Greenville.

If you have a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account through your employer, you may be able to use those pre-tax dollars toward personal training when it is recommended for a specific health condition. We work with clients who use HSA and FSA funds regularly. Visit 4balancefitness.com/paywithhsafsa to learn how it works and what documentation you may need.

This can meaningfully reduce your out-of-pocket cost, and it is worth looking into before you assume training is out of your budget.

What You Are Actually Paying For

I want to be honest about what separates personal training that is worth the investment from personal training that is not.

The price of a session tells you almost nothing. What matters is whether you have a coach who actually knows your history, designs your programming around your specific body and goals, adjusts when something is not working, holds you accountable in a way that is firm but not discouraging, and builds a relationship with you that makes you want to show up.

At 4Balance Fitness, Michael and I have been doing this since 2009. We have worked with over 5,000 clients. We are not franchise coaches working off a template. Every client has a coach they can reach, a plan built for them, and a system that has been refined over 17 years of real results.

That is what you are paying for.

Who Is Personal Training Right For?

I will save you the typical sales pitch. Personal training is not for everyone and I will not pretend otherwise.

You will get the most out of it if you are someone who has struggled to stay consistent on your own, who has a specific goal you have not been able to reach without guidance, who wants to do this right rather than just doing something, or who is at a point in life where your health has become a real priority and you are ready to invest in it the way you invest in other things that matter.

If you are on the fence, come in for the free consultation. There is no commitment and no pressure. You will leave with real information about your body composition, a clear picture of what a training plan for your situation would look like, and an honest answer about whether we are the right fit for your goals and your budget.
